Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Senior Snowflake Database Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

The Senior Snowflake Database Engineer is a staff member of Data, Analytics and BI Transformation team. This role will be responsible for supporting the DAI applications and business users from all aspects of Snowflake database. Candidate must have strong experience with Snowflake platform and expertise in implementing the snowflake features and maintaining them. The primary focus is snowflake database user and objects management, usage cost analysis and recommendation, performance tuning of queries, monitoring and alert configuration, implementing data governance, exploring new capabilities, and resolving user reported issues quickly. Being able to interact with many different teams and adapting to workflow is essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with IT teams & business users to provide Snowflake database technical support in developing reliable, efficient, and scalable solutions for various projects on Snowflake.

  • Create, monitor, and maintain role-based access controls, Virtual warehouses, Tasks, Snowpipe, Streams on Snowflake databases to support different use cases.

  • Monitoring Snowflake database usage includes identifying the problematic queries and working with respective team in resolving them.

  • Performance tuning of Snowflake queries and procedures. Recommending and documenting the best practices of Snowflake.

  • Explore the new capabilities of Snowflake, perform POC and implement them based on business needs.

  • Implementing and educate the team on the time travel and cloning features in Snowflake. Recover the lost data or objects in case of issue.

  • Implement data sharing /replication – cross cloud/cross region for internal/external clients.

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the Snowflake technical documentation, ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies.

  • Lead the root cause analysis, remediation, and document efforts to effectively minimize incidents.

  • Implement Snowflake user /query log analysis, History capture and user email alerts configuration.

  • Enable data governance in Snowflake, including row/column-level data security using secure views and dynamic data masking feature.

  • Knowledge of security (SAML, SCIM, OAuth, OpenID, Kerberos, Policies, entitlements etc.).

    Required Technical Skills

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience with Cloud databases.

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Snowflake platform.

  • Strong experience with Snow SQL, PL/SQL and expertise in writing snowflake procedures using SQL/python/Java.

  • Experience with optimizing Snowflake database performance and real-time monitoring.

  • Experience utilizing modern methods, such as Agile, Automation and DevSecOps.

  • Strong database architecture, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Experience with the AWS platform Services.

  • Snowflake Certification is Highly desirable.

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.

Salary Range: $127,620.00 - $155,980.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
