This role is a hybrid position

The Opportunity

As Sonos products have evolved from local network music players to a modern cloud-connected IoT device, our Software Platform is moving from a LAN-centric to a high scale, high availability secure cloud-first architecture. You will be working on large and complex initiatives with multiple cross-functional teams, so strong collaboration and communication are an essential part to being successful in the role. You are comfortable not being the smartest person in the room and are able to deliver results and collaborate on designs with technical leaders across multiple areas of expertise. You have a proven track record of high- impact deliverables, but you don’t rest on your laurels. You value intellectual curiosity and continuous learning.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build high-impact projects, working hands-on and collaborating with multiple teams in the Software Platform Group

  • Collaborate with software engineers, PM, QA and UX to design within and outside the Platform organization and deliver innovative new capabilities that power consumer, professional, and third party experiences.

  • Mentor your teammates in best practices for developing cloud services.

  • Uplift the organization by working across team boundaries to champion engineering initiatives, including Service Engineering Excellence and Service Engineering Consistency.

  • Collaborate with peer architects and technical leaders, finding opportunities to refactor code, improve product capabilities or perform capability rationalization.

  • Ensure technology decisions and architecture standards are keeping up with the state of the art in the industry.

  • Contribute to the development of our engineering competencies by monitoring industry and technology trends and directions.

  • Evaluate and recommend technology and frameworks for flexibility, long-term viability, and time to market.

  • Advise leadership on the engineering org’s health and investments in engineering expertise in key technology areas, as well as areas where we may have gaps.

What You’ll Need

Basic Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of API design and highly scalable systems.

  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, data privacy and security.

  • Proven track record building high scale APIs used by other teams or companies.

  • Deep expertise with one of more public clouds (AWS strongly preferred)

  • Proven knowledge of the agile development process and DevOps practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with all levels of the organization, including technical and non-technical team members.

  • Qualified candidates must live within commutable distance from the Boston or Seattle office.
