The Global Business Unit Cloud Services organization develops and automates the provisioning, management, and monitoring of infrastructure supporting a broad portfolio of Oracle SaaS applications. This role leads a team that implements, operates, troubleshoots and evolves systems for monitoring the health of cloud infrastructure and applications running on it.

As a director, you will be responsible for defining the roadmap for your team and be responsible for planning and executing key initiatives that not only leverage Oracle technologies, but also integrate emerging cloud technologies. You will be responsible for a global team of engineers with a breadth of experience in enterprise and cloud-based systems. You should have technical depth, architectural know how, strong people and process management skills and the ability to dive deep into any part of the stack. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be obsessed with making your customers happy.

You will assist in the development of short, medium, and long-term plans to achieve strategic business objectives. This role regularly interacts across functional areas and business units with senior management to ensure objectives are understood and met. You possess the ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. You have demonstrated leadership and people management skills with remote teams across geographies. The position requires strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills; as well as a thorough understanding of development and cloud-scale operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, direction and strategy

  • Manage geographically distributed teams and contribute to the success of his/her team members

  • Drive a key strategic pillar (monitoring) and coordinate with peer teams to drive organization success

  • Lean into our cloud strategy and lead the charge toward our target state

  • Demonstrate expertise in cloud engineering and distributed systems

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software development.

  • 5+ Years of experience leading engineering teams and leadership.

  • 5+ Years of experience with cloud service monitoring & monitoring systems.

  • MS or BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.

  • 2+ years of cloud experience.

  • 2+ years of experience managing a complex software development project and working in a domain of operating a service.

  • Sound understanding on Technologies and Languages: Delivery tools (Docker, Jenkins, GitHub), Go, Python, source code management best practices, Terraform.

  • Very strong understanding of application performance concepts like scalability, availability and resiliency in cloud environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recruit very strong engineering talent.

  • Experience at an organization with strong operational/dev-ops culture.

  • Possess an automate everything mindset, from CI/CD based deployment to team collaboration

  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms such as easy to use tooling and automation. Work in concert with service developers to evolve systems/products for better scalability, reliability and release velocity.

  • Previous success in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures for organizations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences.

  • Results driven; thrives in a development environment that is agile, collaborative, and in start-up mode, even when faced with ambiguity

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
