We are looking for a strong technical leader to drive efforts to drive the vision and strategy for a critical platform that powers many of Amazon's core HR and employee-facing experiences.. Industry experience with one of more of the following domains: Large-scale distributed systems, leading high-performant teams, full-stack development is highly recommended. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

Key job responsibilities

As the Software Development Manager, you will define software architecture, and guide a team of developers to implement it with you. You will work closely with your product and development counterparts to make sure we incorporate customer input into our product and define requirements to meet technical options. Additionally, you will coordinate software development across multiple teams, ensuring our service and other Amazon services are designed to work in conjunction.

About the team

The Real-time team is part of the broader Data Consumer eXperience (DCX) group, which sits under Foundational People Data Services (FPDS). It is a distributed team with members located in Seattle and Boston. The team is responsible for designing, building, and operating tier-1 service platform that provides real-time access to Amazon's People data. PeopleAPI (PAPI) serves over 1,500 internal customer services, powering experiences like Amazon Chime, Phonetool, Slack, AtoZ and many more critical Amazon systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
