Job Description


Junior database consultant position is a hybrid position that combines database work with client communication and internal user data support. This role’s responsibilities include developing and improving existing T-SQL (data load, stored procedures, functions, ETL processes, and database design), creating SSIS packages, gathering requirements from both internal and external end-users and implementing various database structures based on provided information. Candidate’s time will be split between database and code work, internal user data support, and client communication and support. The amount of time spent on each of these areas various week-to-week. Position is designed with both personal and organizational growth potential in mind to promote evolution of new

technologies in SourceOne Business Solutions Development team. Candidate will get a chance to work in an Agile development team alongside with SQL Server and web-development experts.


  • Work with clients to determine their needs and develop custom solutions to fulfill those needs. This will include communicating with the client through phone and email and the occasional in-person meeting.

  • Provide database development support for existing database-related solutions for internal users.

  • Developing and maintaining a Microsoft SQL Server tables, functions, stored procedures and other database objects.

  • Design and develop data ETL processes.

  • Serve as technical expert in client meetings to help develop custom IT solutions.

  • Design and develop data BI solutions (data mining and analysis).

  • Collect and document feature and application requirements.

  • Perform peer code reviews.

  • Managing client relationships through complete Agile development life cycle.


Education / Experience / Background

  • One – three years of related experience, with an established record of database development operations experience.

  • BA/BS and 0.5-1 years’ experience with SQL Server.

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005-2014.

  • Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 – 2012 R2.

  • Preferred: Experience with data Business Intelligence.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • This individual must have the ability to work individually on projects as well as be a team player. This individual must also be organized and meticulous; and pay attention to detail.

  • T-SQL: DML, queries, functions, stored procedures.

  • Basic understanding of indexing, database maintenance, performance tuning.

  • Knowledge of basic ETL principles.

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

  • Strong verbal and listening skills.

  • Strong commitment to quality work, customer service and high productivity.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.

  • Basic understanding of virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V).

  • Knowledge of SSIS and/or SSAS
