Location/Division Specific Information

This post is passionate about the service we provide and delivery excellence for Unity Lab Services! A division within Thermo Fisher responsible for providing onsite services at customers locations, we provide services at over 400 customer sites globally.

This current position is located in the greater city of Boston, MA.

What will you do?

Inventory Management:

  • Restocking of PPE, lab consumables and solvents at designated locations.

  • Provide status of back-orders and expedite orders promptly.

  • Work with end users to right size inventory levels and product mix.

  • Perform on-site program replenishments and disbursements.

  • Perform stockroom duties to include receiving, put-away, stock rotation, cycle counts, and other functions according to customer requirements.

  • Follow well defined procedures as outlined by Best Practices, SOP’s & work instructions.

  • Take direction from Team Leader regarding daily duties.

  • Communicate any customer issues or potential problems with Team Leader.

  • Apply basic systems to support various inventory management systems.

  • Access & use Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Intranet and SharePoint document management system.

  • Remove cardboard and trash as needed.

  • Positively always represent Vertex and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.

  • Perform ordering of supplies on behalf of end users.

  • Provide general customer service on site.

  • Working with sales team, provide options for product standardization and low-cost alternatives.

  • Development, maintenance and full adherence to departmental work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOP’s) in fulfillment of the requirements for our QMS and the expectations of our interested parties (internal / external).

  • Identify and report quality or compliance concerns to management and the quality functions and take immediate actions to remedy.

  • Complete all planned or unplanned quality & compliance training requirements within defined timeline

  • Support customer facilities teams with requests, not limited to conference room setups, hanging pictures and whiteboards, and assisting with lab moves.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate degree in a related field preferred, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills. Military Service/Training in lieu of a degree may also be considered.

Experience

2 years of related experience within a laboratory setting is helpful.

Experience working in customer service is also a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Able to read, write, and speak English fluently

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and desire to deliver excellent customer service. This includes maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor in all interactions and upholding Thermo Fisher Scientific's values, including confidentiality.

  • Possesses a strong desire to serve the customer, and the interpersonal skills to collaborate with various levels of personnel at the customer site.

  • Independently operates handheld scanners to enter data in various systems as needed; as well as analytical skills to reconcile reports.

  • Demonstrates computer proficiency and possesses intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite of software. Uses organizational skills to multi-task and meet due dates as needed.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Works primarily at customer sites, which may require independent work. Work areas may include spaces where chemical-based allergens are in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc)

  • Depending on the area of the building, personal protective equipment may be worn, including lab coats, coveralls, hoods, facemasks, hairnets, safety gloves, steel-toe shoes, bump hats, and/or safety glasses.

  • Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; may be required to lift 50 pounds occasionally, including operation and use of pushcarts, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.

  • Regularly required to stand or walk for prolonged periods.

  • Ability to work overtime, as needed.
