Wayfair Staff Economist, Search and Recommendations in Boston, Massachusetts

<p>The Search, Marketing, and Recommendations Technology team is responsible for the algorithms powering Wayfair's global customer-facing experiences, serving over 22 million active customers. We also lead key investments in causal inference systems utilized across the company. <h3><strong>What You’ll Do:</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Lead the technical strategy for our global causal inference initiatives, building frameworks that facilitate effective system interactions and clearly communicating this vision to a diverse audience.</li>
<li>Design and implement large-scale causal inference systems, including our experimentation platform, long-term impact models, and scalable synthetic control platforms.</li>
<li>Drive the development of advanced causal inference capabilities to assess the value of various customer marketing touchpoints (both on-site and off-site).</li>
<li>Integrate underlying models into a unified technology platform that supports stakeholders with diverse needs, helping them reach sound causal conclusions.</li>
<li>Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members to enhance their skills.</li>
<li>Collaborate with leaders in engineering, product management, data science, and business to address complex problems holistically.</li>
</ul>
<h3><strong>We’re Excited About You Because You Have:</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>7+ years of industry experience in one or more of the following: observational causal inference, experimentation, or building and maintaining large-scale measurement systems.</li>
<li>Proficient coding skills: advanced experience in Python for machine learning and causal inference, along with familiarity with workflow tools (e.g., Airflow, Composer) for batch and real-time processes.</li>
<li>Expertise in statistical modeling techniques, including experimental design, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, and optimization.</li>
<li>A proven track record of managing large-scale technical projects, including creating roadmaps, execution, and delivery.</li>
<li>The ability to work closely with senior business stakeholders, translate complex ideas for non-experts, and influence strategic decisions at the Director+ level.</li>
<li>A strong publication record in applied science journals (e.g., NeurIPS) is a plus.</li>

<p>The salary range for this position is $207,000 - $230,000* however, base pay offered may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per individual states’ pay transparency laws.</p>
