VMware Staff Site Reliability Engineer - FEDRAMP - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

T his position will perform work that the U.S. government has specified can only be performed by a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil, and therefore any offer will be contingent upon verification of both of these requirements.

We need someone who can help us build a FEDRAMP compliant environment for running Tanzu Mission Control, which already exists in a non-FEDRAMP environment. You will be responsible for understanding and engineering FEDRAMP compliant infrastructure solutions running on top of AWS GovCloud. You will maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health as part of an on-call rotation. You will manage hosted services and recognize the challenges, complexities and trade-offs to be made when building and deploying new systems to production

What are examples of the types of challenges that you might help solve?

  • Achieving FIPS 140-2 compliance when open-source software that is not using FIPS-validated cryptography libraries is part of the product.

  • Ensuring that products fully function in air gapped environments.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Owning the infrastructure delivery for TMC into FEDRAMP environments

  • Architect solutions for delivering a modern day SaaS into a highly constrained environment

  • Develop Jenkins automation to provision and manage our FEDRAMP compliant infrastructure using tools like Terraform and Kubernetes

  • Collaborate with our CI/CD team to ensure they have a way of deploying Tanzu Mission Control code into this FEDRAMP environment

  • Partner with compliance and security organizations to adapt our infrastructure and services to be FEDRAMP compliant

  • Contribute to FEDRAMP Tanzu Mission Control’s increased reliability while maintaining support for product driven initiatives

  • Delivering compliance documentation such as bodies of evidence (BOE) or architecture diagrams

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Collaborate on a team to build, review, and help design high quality code and infrastructure using Golang and Terraform

  • Be responsible for maintaining Kubernetes resources in staging and production FEDRAMP environments.

  • Participate in on-call rotation being part of geographically distributed teams

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks or anomalous system behavior and perform retrospectives around incidents

  • Develop automation for the deployment, monitoring, and observability of services operating in FEDRAMP with tools like Prometheus

  • Support routine compliance audits by generating audit evidence and updating compliance processes or diagrams

  • Identify needs for new compliance tooling and work with product management and compliance engineering teams to execute.
