American Express Strategic Finance, Senior Analyst in Boston, Massachusetts


American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) is a global leader in providing payments solutions for Small, Medium, Large and Global businesses. We process billions of dollars in transactions for thousands of the world’s largest and most well-known companies. As we continue to expand our product suite and global presence, we are looking for an insightful and analytical Senior Financial Analyst to be the financial and strategic partner to product teams exploring and developing our business-to-business (B2B) payments products and capabilities.

Reporting to the Finance Manager of B2B Payments & AP Automation, this position will be part of a small team focused on strategic decision support for B2B payments and Accounts Payable (AP) Automation solutions, including One AP and FinTech partnerships. The finance team creates data-driven insights that inform planning and forecasting, influence key strategic decisions and drive cross-functional outcomes. Areas of support include product constructs, pricing, investment optimization, new deals and partnerships, and new product launches, among others.

To be successful, the candidate will need to collaborate with stakeholders across multiple disciplines, including finance, product management, sales, client management, controllership, and risk. This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to prioritize effectively, a passion for the business, resourcefulness, and comfort working in dynamic and fast-paced environment.


  • Provide analytical and financial decision support to the GCS B2B product management teams

  • Complete strategic and financial planning processes (e.g., Monthly Reviews, Variance Analysis, Annual Budget, Investment Planning, and Long-Range Plan)

  • Query, curate & analyze large data sets using SQL, and use data to substantiate and inform business strategy

  • Identify and create analyses that support business decisions to improve product economics and provide insights into the external environment

  • Transform data sets into compelling visuals that clearly articulate business drivers/KPIs and drive insights

  • Build and analyze customer & product profitability

  • Complete ad hoc analyses as needed



  • 2 years of relevant experience within finance, accounting, consulting, or data analytics

  • Ability to break down complex ideas into clear and actionable messages

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with SQL or a willingness to learn is a must

  • Strong working proficiency of Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to handle several tasks while maintaining accuracy

  • Ability to work with business partners to influence decisions and drive results
