Position Summary:

SolomonEdwards is seeking a Taxonomist with IT subject matter expertise to work remotely on an exciting information management initiative within a large US-based technology organization as it centralizes its vast content holdings into an integrated AI-based ecosystem.

This position will play a pivotal role in streamlining and standardizing taxonomy and ontologies as well as meta-tagging content from multiple systems as part of evolving AI solutions to integrate and optimize content organization and overall user experience. Candidates must be exceptionally organized and have a strong understanding of systems and content.

Ideal candidate must have prior digital asset organization, taxonomy, and metadata experience and have advocated for the streamlined end-user experience when interacting with these systems and content. This role will collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams to maintain steady and effective progress toward all project goals.

Previous experience working on complex projects and self-managing assigned priorities against deadlines and project task execution. Self-direction and working to creatively envision possibilities and evangelize best practices are a plus.

This is a remote position, and candidates can be located anywhere in the US but will be required to time-shift as needed to coordinate/collaborate with other project colleagues across multiple time zones.

Essential Duties:

• Develop, refine, and implement taxonomies, ontologies, and metadata structures to support AI-driven content management initiatives.

• Standardize and streamline metadata tagging processes across multiple systems to improve content accessibility and discoverability.

• Work with cross-functional teams to integrate structured metadata into an AI-powered content ecosystem.

• Utilize taxonomy management software, including PoolParty, to maintain and enhance structured vocabularies.

• Ensure taxonomy alignment with industry best practices, organizational goals, and end-user needs.

• Analyze and map metadata across digital asset management (DAM) and content management systems (CMS).

• Support records management and digital asset organization, ensuring compliance with metadata standards.

• Distill complex content structures into concise, meaningful metadata for effective search and retrieval.

• Maintain documentation and provide recommendations for continuous taxonomy and metadata improvements.

• Collaborate across multiple time zones to ensure smooth project execution.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree from an accredited LIS university is required; MA-LIS, MLS/MLIS degree.

• Experience with CMS and Digital Asset Management Software, taxonomy and metadata standards, their application, and practical implementation.

• Experience with Records Management and/or Digital Asset Management, SIA Digital Archiving Certification a plus.

• Prior experience with PoolParty is required. Additional familiarity with metadata tools such as Jira, Mondeca, Semaphore, Visual Studio, RAG, XML, markdown, and Neo4j, as well as working with and editing PDFs with Adobe Pro and understanding semantic context metadata, are a plus.

Skills and Job-Specific Competencies:

• Excellent comprehensive, verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable distilling complex content information into small synapses of relevant data and dissecting and extracting key metadata into specific fields.

• Must have exceptional organizational skills, be process-oriented, detail-oriented, and capable of quickly learning and participating in the big picture and context details of a project.

• 2 – 5 years prior relatable experience required.

Travel Requirements: No travel will be required, unless at the client's discretion.

Salary Range: SolomonEdwards values your unique and individual experience and background. As such, we take a comprehensive approach when determining compensation for our roles. The compensation for this specific role is based on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to, education, licensure and certifications, location, experience, and training. A reasonable estimate for the current hourly range for this role is $45-50.
