State of Massachusetts Team Leader - Environmental Service Specialist III in Boston, Massachusetts

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking 2 experienced Environmental Service Specialist III’s to join our Environmental services team (EVS). An Environmental Service Specialist III leads the routine and non-routine housekeeping tasks and linen distribution within the hospital. The incumbents would work under the supervision of the Environmental Service Specialist IV and Supervisor of EVS to complete projects and oversee the evening and day staff. /_Please Note_/: 2 Environmental Service Specialist III Leader Positions Available, Day Shift Supervisor – 7AM-3:30PM Evening Shift Supervisor- 3PM-11:30PM /Days off are Friday and Saturday / // /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/// * Supervise and instruct housekeepers in routine and non-routine housekeeping tasks. This includes orienting new employees to departmental policies and procedures, cleaning patient care units and how to use and care for equipment. * Requisition cleaning supplies and linens, checking them off when delivered. * Ascertain that all Departmental procedures are carried out. Staff adhere to all safety regulations. * Assigns staff to morning assignments, extra duty assignments and daily work assignments. * Acts as a supervisor for any assigned cleaning project. * Submits work orders to Facilities Management when repairs to floor, fixtures or walls are needed; follow-up to ensure that repairs are made. * Make frequent inspection tours of buildings to determine cleanliness. Supervisors must document problems, plan corrective action, and make reports to the Director of Environmental Services. * Prepares payroll accurately, documents corrective disciplinary actions and completes incident and accident reports in a timely manner. * Issue keys to housekeepers for entering various rooms and work areas. Issues equipment from housekeeping storeroom and checks equipment when returned. * Perform general housekeeping duties when work load requires it. * Check linen rooms and linen carts for appropriate linen supply. * Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.// /_Required Qualifications:_/// * Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in general institutional housekeeping. * Considerable knowledge of the type, properties, quality and uses of cleaning supplies and equipment and their effectson the various types of construction and finishes. * Working knowledge of building maintenance. * Knowledge of decorating and room furnishing. * Ability to use housekeeping equipment. * Capacity to transport heavy objects. * Power to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. * Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in institutional housekeeping. * Potential to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise,understandable manner. * Means to understand and apply the policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the department and hospital. * Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates' training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action. * Skilled to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others. * Ability to deal tactfully with others. * Physical Stamina and endurance. /_/Preferred Qualifications:/_/ * Awareness of the policies, procedures, rules, regulations, etc. governing assigned unit activities. * Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of supervision. /_About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:_/ Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.
