Boston Public Schools Theater Content Specialist [Part-Time 0.5FTE] (Anticipated Vacancy) (SY24-25) in Boston, Massachusetts

This position is an anticipated vacancy. It is expected to be vacant. However, the current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the day of the expected vacancy date. Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long-Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year. Reports to: Executive Director for the Arts Content Specialty: Theater Arts Content Specialist PreK-12 General Description:The Boston Public Schools is searching for an innovative leader to advance theatre arts education. Reporting to the Executive Director for the Arts, the Theatre Arts Content Specialist will support Pre-K–12 theatre educators by providing instructional coaching, fostering the implementation of an inclusive, culturally, and linguistically responsive curriculum, and delivering high-quality professional development. The role also includes managing districtwide arts initiatives, producing theatre-specific projects, and collaborating with internal and external partners to further the district’s arts education goals. Responsibilities:Develops and facilitates professional development through workshops, study groups, data analysis, and peer observations connected to the 2019 Massachusetts Core Arts Standards Supports teachers in the implementation of effective instructional practices to improve student outcomes Models positive leadership utilizing effective communication skills that reflect a deep commitment to educational success and opportunity for all students Guides theater educators by creating effective classroom environments, planning lessons, conducting demo classes, and providing in-class coaching Organizes and facilitates professional learning communities as necessary to support the improvement of core instruction and implementation of the frameworks Acts as a liaison between teachers where mentor/mentee relationships may be built to support best practices Maintains and organizes an inventory of theatre arts curriculum materials and supplies, and oversees the distribution of materials Produces citywide showcases of student performances Trains students and educators on industry-standard lighting design (ETC Ion) Assists colleagues in citywide Visual and Performing Arts events Strengthen partnerships with creative youth development and cultural organizations in Boston Skills and Competencies:Demonstrated ability to provide critical feedback Demonstrated ability to adapt and modify the curriculum for students with disabilities and multilingual students Demonstrated ability to create and disseminate instructional tools for teachers and build professional development modules for teachers of multiple grade bands Demonstrated ability to use data to guide instructional design for teachers and students Demonstrated ability to think strategically to improve the delivery of instruction to students while considering the needs of all stakeholders Ability to consider multiple perspectives, synthesize information, and draw conclusions to support student improvement Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and solutions-oriented Extensive knowledge of theatre arts, including directing, acting, lighting, sound, stage design, production, and curriculum development Extensive knowledge of instructional techniques to support urban students in gaining proficiency in theatre arts Extensive knowledge of national and state standards and recent research regarding content instruction and development Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally in speaking and writing Attend professional development to deepen knowledge of content, pedagogy, and other related competencies Qualifications - Required:Bachelor’s Degree MA Teacher Certification in Theatre Arts 5 or more years of urban teaching experience Strong foundation in culturally and linguistically sustaining practices Experience teaching Students with Disabilities and Multilingual Language Learners Proficiencies with technology including Google Drive: Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides; Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Theatre Production Software and Tools Experience and knowledge in producing presentations specific to musical theatre and drama; is able to guide teachers through logistics and planning related to this Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present information to large and small groups Demonstrated experience providing engaging, data- and standards-based professional development Support educators in understanding and applying copyright law and licensing requirements for theatrical productions in schools.
