This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.While the office is located in Boston, it may be possible to situate this position in a location outside the Boston metropolitan area based upon the applicant’s experience and needs of the Department. AGENCY OVERVIEW CPCS is the state agency in Massachusetts responsible for providing an attorney when the state or federal constitution or a state statute requires the appointment of an attorney for a person who cannot afford to retain one. The agency provides representation in criminal, delinquency, youthful offender, family regulation, guardianship, mental health, sexually dangerous person, and sex offender registry cases, as well as in appeals and post-conviction and post-judgment proceedings related to those matters. The clients we represent are diverse across every context imaginable and bring many unique cultural dimensions to the matters we address. This reality creates a critical need for CPCS staff to be culturally competent and able to work well with people of different races, ethnicities, genders and/or sexual orientation identities, abilities, and limited English proficiency, among other protected characteristics. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The CPCS Training Department provides high quality training to all staff and private assigned counsel. The Training Department, led by the Training Chief, includes four practice area Training Units - Criminal Defense, Children and Family Law, Youth Advocacy and Mental Health Litigation – all of which are overseen by individual Training Directors, and six cross practice area working groups chaired and staffed by Training Department personnel. CPCS enjoys a well-deserved national reputation for its skills-based training. In addition to providing substantive and skills training to attorneys, the Training Department ensures that all other professional staff members are provided appropriate training in their areas of expertise. The Training Department also plays a significant role in the provision of diversity, management, supervision, employment law, and other training to staff and private assigned counsel. POSITION OVERVIEW The TrainingTechnologist workscollaborativelywith the Training Department staff, IT, and other CPCS personnel and contractors by providing technological expertise and support. The Training Technologist provides technological expertise that facilitates the development and delivery of training and makes training resources widely available and accessible. This is a hands-on role ensuring that agency technology effectively supports both live and virtual trainings. The TrainingTechnologist reports to the Training Chief of the Training Department. The Training Department is located in Boston, but it may be possible to situate this position in a location outside the Boston metropolitan area based upon the applicant’s experience and the needs of the Department. RESPONSIBILITIES * Collaborating with training staff and IT regarding the use of technology in training; * Managing Knowledge and Learning Management Software; * Supporting, setting-up, troubleshooting, producing, and directing training sessions involving technology for large-scale training programs; * Training staff in the use of hardware and software and how to select the appropriate technology for the best training outcomes; * Collaborating with IT to identify and recommend technology to support and improve training; * Managing hardware inventory, tracking, and allocation; * Creating complex graphics for presentations using PowerPoint, Prezi, or other presentation software; * Managing the electronic training library, including streamlining access to, and distribution of, training materials via shared network drives, email, and other information sharing platforms; * Providing technical expertise in the creation of online courses using Talent LMS or other learning management software; * Video editing; and, * Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Candidates must have: * Experience supporting audio/visual needs in class-based or virtual training/presentations including setting up, maintaining, and supporting videoconferencing/trainings; * A minimum of two years’ experience managing small and large projects; * A valid driver’s license with the ability to use a reliable personal vehicle for transportation on a reimbursable basis; and, * Access to a personal computer with home internet access sufficient to work remotely. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS * * * Demonstrated ability to work in a Windows 10/11 environment including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network problems both in person and remotely; * Ability to define, set up, maintain, and trouble-shoot videoconferencing and training environments, including AV, sound, lighting, etc.; * Ability to continually re-assess current training technology against developing standards; * Ability to support non-technical people on-site and over the phone; and, * Ability to work independently.
