Job Description: Boston Latin Academy is seeking a dynamic, visionary and culturally adept individual to serve as a Digital Art and Media teacher in our school. We are looking for a highly motivated, exceptional, dynamic individual to be a member of our growing art department. This individual must have knowledge and skills that support and cultivate our students' desire to express creative artistry. They must work Latin Academy is committed to developing and nurturing the diverse voices within our school setting and as such we are looking for an individual that can be committed to providing a wide array of choral arrangements that reflect the many cultures and perspectives within our community. This person must be collaborative and a team player. Responsibilities: Teach visual art classes in different media including studio and digital media and exhibitions. Participate in the creation of an integrated interdisciplinary arts-infused curriculum including producing exhibitions. Along with other core arts faculty, participate in strategic planning and department management. Areas include but are not limited to assessment, recruitment and outreach, implementing technology, student case management, and exhibition/competition/partnership participation. Have experience or familiarity with the Chapter 74 Career and Technical Education’s Design programming. Communicate regularly with parents/caregivers about student progress. Teach a digital art and media and/or photography course as well as create an AP or equivalent arts opportunity for students. Accept flexible assignments, such as team and interdisciplinary teaching, working with different age groups and ability levels, etc. Work with university, college and community collaborators and develop new partnerships that cultivate the growth of the Arts at BLA Perform general administrative tasks to teaching and advising. Create opportunities for exhibitions that coincide with art concerts and collaborate with other disciplines within the school Qualifications: Required: Possession of (or eligibility to receive) a Massachusetts preliminary license in Visual Art-All Levels. Commitment to the arts as an important element in a complete education. Commitment to cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity as an element in a complete education. Experience and/or willingness to be trained in integrated or theme-based curriculum and performance, or portfolio-based assessment, as well as Career and Technical Education. Commitment to and demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction in the classroom. Ability to take on responsibilities and prioritize quickly. Excellent communication skills. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Preferred: Three years teaching experience, preferably in an urban high school setting. Masters Degree or equivalent thereof. Ability and/or certification to teach in multiple subject areas, such as graphic design, photography, or costume/ fashion design. Fluency in languages in addition to English. Experience as an artist. Interest or experience in more than one discipline. Experience working with local cultural institutions. Experience with new technology relating to arts and education. Experience working in a heterogeneous classroom. Experience with portfolio assessment.
