Ethos Veterinary Health Vice President of Operations in Boston, Massachusetts
Ethos Veterinary Health is seeking a Vice President of Operations (VP) to support our west region operations, encompassing 8 divisions, 72 hospitals, 14 states, and an overall revenue of $1 billion. The VP will ensure that the strategy, talent, organization, culture, processes, programs and controls are organized to deliver on the strategic mission of the organization. The VP will also maintain a forward view towards operational infrastructure to drive future growth and strategic business goals. The VP will lead eight divisions with geographically disbursed teams while leveraging corporate departments to drive operational performance, profitability and client satisfaction. This leader will need to be present in the field, engaging with team members, both administrative and clinical.

The ideal candidate will be capable of delivering the following results:
Culture: Maintain and enhance the exceptional relationships that have been built with the veterinarians and their teams over the years as we work towards our “One Ethos” culture.
Operations: Support field teams to manage performance at existing clinic operations while extending that capability into newly acquired practices.
Innovation: An experienced change agent with a demonstrated ability to creatively design and deploy innovative initiatives, programs or solutions that are effective and generate results.
The responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:
• Oversee operations of the veterinary hospitals in the aligned territory with full P&L responsibility.
• Support performance of operational team members against metrics and assume responsibility to motivate, measure, coach, and mentor the team to ensure optimum performance. Track metrics and success criteria including ROI for all activities.
• Develop operational strategies that are aligned with organizational goals. Ensures that those strategies are effectively deployed throughout the region.
• Be capable of balancing the needs of each hospital while working to build a “One Ethos” culture
• Frequently travel in the field to spend time with hospital staff and build rapport with Division Leaders, Operations Support Managers, Hospital Directors and Medical Directors.
• Work with divisional leadership to improve processes, operations and profitability, by identifying and implementing local growth initiatives.
• Create an environment that embraces innovation, and continuous operational improvement.
Qualifications:
• 15+ years of leadership experience in an entrepreneurial, high-growth retail or services business. The individual will possess experience building and leading a multi-site, multi-state business in a capital efficient manner. BA or BS degree is required and advanced degree(s) are considered a plus.
• Ability to support our hospitals accustomed to working within a practice management model with the evolution to a “One Ethos” operating model.
• Demonstrated business acumen and knowledge of staffing, capacity, ROI, budget, margins, service and product offerings, to implement and drive strategic and relevant operational outcomes.
• Previous operating responsibility for a business of similar size and complexity.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to manage and work collaboratively with a diverse group of clinical and non-clinical staff.
• Possess the leadership and people skills necessary to manage a complex group of operating units with a strong operational rigor.
• Willing to spend significant time in the field to thoroughly understand the business and the practical issues so to better lead, grow, motivate and strategize and problem-solve with others.
• Lead the creation and implementation of teammate development processes and succession planning including mentoring, coaching, and modeling appropriate leadership behaviors.

Strategic Orientation: Demonstrated by translating a vision into actionable plans and activities. The candidate will have the ability to contribute to the company’s overall strategy, resolve strategic issues, and help manage operations effectively to achieve objectives.
Commercial Orientation: This individual’s strength in revenue generation will be balanced by the ability to set an appropriate cost basis. This includes gaining insight into client and local market needs allowing for the identification and capture regional growth opportunities. This skillset will have been previously demonstrated through proven experience improving profitability with a strong focus on revenue generation such as service mix, pricing and improving same clinic growth/margins.
