State of Massachusetts Worker's Comp Adjusting Supervisor in Boston, Massachusetts

The Human Resources Division/Workers’ Compensation Unit (HRD/WC) is the legislatively authorized administrator of the Commonwealth’s self-insured workers’ compensation program. HRD/WC is responsible for all workers’ compensation claims activity from inception to resolution and is seeking to hire an experienced Workers' Compensation Claims Adjusting Supervisor. The position requires a strong understanding of G.L. c. 152 Workers’ Compensation Statute, the administration of a workers’ compensation self-insured program and an ability to supervise a team of workers’ compensation professionals. More specifically, an ability to complete the following: Duties & Responsibilities: * Process Department of Industrial Accidents Orders and Agreements. * Administer §111 Medicare Secondary Payer filings. * Manage a small claims caseload within the guidelines of Chapter 152. * Recognize potential Third Party/Subrogation cases. * Maintain accurate records and payments. * Prepare cases for litigation. * Calculate indemnity rates, travel reimbursement, end of compensation dates, and all other required adjustments and reimbursements. * Create and monitor a personal diary system. * Conduct on/off site workers’ compensation presentations and/or trainings to internal and external customers. * Supervise/oversee workers’ compensation unit staff. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: * Oversee and review work of staff; provide staff training and assistance; conduct performance evaluations; determine priorities and plan unit work; establish and maintain unit procedures. * Identify potential problems and elevate issues in order to find solutions and maximize efficiency. * Act as a resource to workers' compensation claims team members to answer questions and solve complex issues. * Coordinate different teams to foster an exchange of ideas and provide cross-team learning opportunities. * Work with HRD and A&F IT Teams to update and improve electronic claims management operations. * Identify trends to determine individual or office weaknesses and develop action plans to monitor and ensure action plans have been successfully implemented. * Evaluate programs and procedures for continuous improvements. * Perform assignments, tasks or activities that contribute to the overall objectives of leadership. * Ensure quality and adherence to HRD/WC Best Practices Manual. * Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers. * Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction. * Commitment to working in a team environment. * Ability to adhere to strict timelines, but also have the ability and flexibility to multitask in a fast-paced environment. * Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a collaborative and professional manner. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in work simplification, management analysis, program analysis, methods analysis, economic analysis, fiscal analysis, financial analysis, budget analysis, program administration, or program management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, business management, public administration, industrial engineering or industrial management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.* II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, budget management, public administration, industrial engineering or industrial management may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required experience.* III. A Bachelor's degree or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management, public administration, industrial engineering or industrial management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
