Job Description:

The Acoustic Test Engineer supports the testing of transducer and sonar products for Ultra on items for the Navy and commercial customers. Typical projects will be the design of a new or modified transducer or sonar product. Additionally, projects would include the development and execution of in-water acoustic testing. Most of the time will be spent at Ultra’s in-water test facility in Quincy, MA developing and validating acoustic test procedures.

  • Acoustic in-water testing design
  • Conceptualizes solutions to engineering problems
  • Develops, calibrates, and tests new designs and techniques
  • Data analysis
  • Troubleshoots electronic/mechanical systems
  • Participates in report writing to document developments and tests.
  • This is a second shift role. We work a 9/80 schedule.

Required Skills: We are open to candidates with:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Ocean Engineering or appropriate field with 10+ years of experience and 5 + years of test engineering - experience with electrical and mechanical systems, including debugging and testing software and development of test apparatus and test procedures

Or

  1. a candidate with 5+ years of in-water acoustic testing

Or

  1. A more entry level candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics and one year of experience (co-ops or internships will count)

AND for all candidates:

  • The ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.
  • The ability to work second shift.

Desired Skills:

  • Former USN surface ship/submarine Sonar Tech (ST) a definite plus
  • Experience with testing underwater acoustics and/or sonar systems
  • Experience with underwater instrumentation such as sonar and acoustic arrays
  • LabVIEW Experience
  • Experience with the deployment and fielding of underwater systems
  • Proficient in the use of measurement devices and diagnostic instrumentation
  • Data analysis skills
  • Willing to perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous documentation skills
  • Proficient in time management skills is desired to meet tight project deadlines

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds up to 4 feet off the ground.
  • Ability to bend, lift, kneel, stretch in tight areas.
  • This is not a desk position; varies between sitting and standing (more standing) all evening.
