State of Massachusetts Educational Specialist (A/B) - Barber Instructor in Bridgewater, Massachusetts
Duties: Provide vocational/technical instruction on an individual basis to ensure that individualized needs are assessed and met while delivering barbering curriculum and preparing incarcerated individuals for the barbering license exam. Provides instruction in areas pertaining to Barber to incarcerated individuals in a medium security correctional setting. Follow established curriculum units and lesson plans to address individual student needs. Work with I.M.S. (Inmate management System) whenever necessary. Maintain accurate up-to-date records of student progress and attendance. Participate in student recruitment and follow-up. Provides instruction on an individualized basis to ensure that individual needs are assessed and met. The individual will provide classroom and hands-on instruction in the various, current methods and techniques of the barber trade to include hygiene, sanitation, safety, tool use, cutting and styling, shampoo, shaving, honing and stropping, and chemical application. Daily supervision of preventative maintenance/parts inventory and tool control. Assists in the annual inventory of all school equipment. Prepares and prioritizes book and supply orders for presentation and justification basis. Participate in staff meetings with head teacher and other teachers on a weekly basis. Staff meetings may periodically be held off-site. Prepares and compiles student evaluations, interview sheets, competency checklist, etc. Participates in at least forty (40) hours of professional development training per year. Performs all other duties assigned by direct supervisor and management. Preferred Qualifications: Possession of a current Massachusetts Board of Barbering, Barber Instructor License. Teaching experience is favorable as well as significant experience in the barber field. Able to develop and implement lesson plans from a standardized curriculum for the barber program. Capacity to work with an incarcerated, adult population in high/medium security settings. Able to work with inmates as well as staff and administration. Knowledgeable of principles and practices in an adult correctional institution as well as its schedules and daily security procedures. Comments: This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in teaching, educational administration, educational counseling or educational guidance, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in education or special education, educational administration or educational counseling may be substituted for the required experience.* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
