Signature Healthcare’s Brockton Hospital is hiring for a Full Time Operating Room (OR) Scheduler in Brockton, MA.

Operating Room (OR) Scheduler Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Works according to established procedures and priorities.

  • Able to solve routine problems referring unusual occurrences or issues requiring exception to policy or procedure to manager.

  • Utilizes computerized booking. Receives and enters personal, medical, insurance and other demographic information from internal and external physician offices required for booking surgical procedures, preadmission screening and registration, and insurance approval.

  • Books surgical procedures with consistent quality and accuracy. Coordinates external vendor services to facilitate procedures. Negotiates alternative surgical time with physicians when first choice is not available.

  • Books preadmission testing patient appointments. Communicates surgical and/or preadmission testing changes to registration department.

  • Maintains communication in the surgical suite. Answers calls from surgical suites for special intra-op runs to ancillary departments.

  • Participates in emergency situations by calling codes, fire alarms and security as needed.

  • Verifies availability of surgeons, residents, medical students, radiology technicians as needed to maintain the schedule.

  • Answers all beeper pages for surgeons, residents, medical students, and managers when unavailable or in surgery.

  • Promptly communicates delays in the schedule to surgeons, indicating new estimated start time.

  • Notifies required personnel when ready for OR cases e.g. residents, x-ray technicians, etc.

  • Greets and directs patients and visitors.

  • Maintains orderly office environment. Keeps bulletin boards neat and current.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    Required/Preferred

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Experience: Medical secretarial or computer related courses preferred, but not required. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Word processing or data entry experience required. Must be able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally in English.
