Brockton Hospital Registered Dietitian in Brockton, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

The Registered Dietitian (R.D.) will work in coordination with the CDE/Diabetes Service to provide diabetes education for patients with newly diagnosed Diabetes Mellitus, Pre-Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes or uncontrolled diabetes. The R.D. will advise and counsel patients on food and nutrition. They will explain nutritional issues, assess the dietary and health needs of our patients, develop meal plans and gauge the effects of those individual meal plans.

This is a per diem position

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates competency in performing job responsibilities for patients of all age groups.

  • Perform nutrition assessments, develops nutrition care plans, and participates in Patient Rounds.

  • Assesses, follows, and develops nutrition care plans for nutrition support patients appropriately.

  • Screens all general adult patients for initial level of nutrition care and continuously monitors for potential changes in nutrition level of care Performs nutrition assessment of patients, develop nutrition care plans; monitors progress and adjusts care plans as required and documents in the medical record. Calculates and records any calorie counts on specific patients.

  • Participates in department activities such as: in-services, patient rounds and teaching classes.

  • Consults with and advises physicians on any recommended changes or possible problems related to diet orders; especially nutrition support recommendations.

  • Instructs patients or significant others prior to discharge regarding special therapeutic diets. Completes nursing home referral forms to furnish patient nutrition information to visiting nurses or consulting dietitians.

  • Maintains current knowledge of developments in clinical nutrition and accepts responsibility for self-development through continuing education program. Interprets, evaluates and utilizes current research and reference pertinent to nutritional care.

  • Assist in the development of short and long range goals and objectives for assigned area that are consistent with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Participates in quality improvement projects.

  • Available for support and guidance of nutrition representatives regarding menu correction and patient meals.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors of Science Degree in Nutrition, or comparable area required. Commission on Dietetic Registration and Massachusetts state licensure required.

  • Experience: Six months to three years of clinical experience. Familiarity with Nutrition Care Process. Ability to write PES statements. Can accurately formulate enteral and parenteral nutrition recommendations.

  • Other: Excellent oral and written communications skills required.
