Lead Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) Job, Full-Time, Evening, 2nd Shift

Signature Healthcare’s Brockton Hospital is hiring for a Full-Time, Evening, 2nd Shift Lead Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) in Brockton, MA.

Lead Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collects, properly handles, and makes appropriate disposition of contaminated items in accordance with established procedure.

  • Disassembles, rough washes, cleans, and dries utensils, instruments, devices, supplies, and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Inspects instruments for completeness or any defective parts.

  • Appropriately arranges instrument kits for Operating Room and other department use according to Kardex specifications. Maintains records for missing or defective instruments for the Operating Room.

  • Tests, monitors, and operates washing and sterilizing (gas, hydrogen peroxide and steam) equipment, decontaminators, heat sealer and other departmental apparatus. Performs vacuum penetration and biological testing. Interprets results of testing and maintains appropriate records.

  • Notifies supervisor of any abnormalities or malfunctions.

  • Determines appropriate sterilization method for items and monitor recording charts during and after sterilization to insure sterilizing parameters are achieved.

  • Prepares case carts for Operating Room, Delivery Room, and Cardiac Cath Lab procedures. Ensures appropriate supplies and records are maintained for each procedure.

  • Cleans, tests, and prepares for re-issue portable patient care equipment and instrumentation.

  • Re-stocks and maintains records for all emergency and procedural carts. Replaces expired product.

  • Maintains proper inventory levels for all sets, packs, and trays. Stores sterile and non-sterile items in designated areas issuing on a first-in, first-out basis. Verifies sterility status of items previous to issue. Reprocess all expired items.

  • Alerts SPD Manager of any procedural, personnel or equipment issues as they arise.

  • Insures day-to-day operations of all shift functions are carried out and completed. Communicates with other shift employees to provide continuity of service to our customers.

  • Assists with orientation and training of new employees within the department and orientation of employees from other departments

  • Coordinates in-service programs to insure employees are in compliance with hospital-related safety programs and education components.

  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

  • Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).

  • Communicates effectively with internal and external customers with respect of differences in cultures, values, beliefs and ages, utilizing interpreters when needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent ; Technician Certification Required

  • Two to three years experience in all phases of assigned duties or related fields.
