Brockton Hospital Vice President of Pharmacy Operations in Brockton, Massachusetts

Reporting to the Sr. Vice President, Patient Services, the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations is responsible for health system pharmacy operations, both inpatient and outpatient services, including development, communication, and implementation of Signature Healthcare’s pharmacy operations mission, vision, and goals. Provides strategic leadership to pharmacy operations across Signature Healthcare sites to support patient centered care and high quality patient experience. Provides leadership for clinical pharmacy programs, including 340(b), retail pharmacy and activities across the health system. Services include, but are not limited to, Associate Pharmacy, inpatient and outpatient drug distribution, medication use quality and safety, regulatory compliance, drug procurement, and financial performance. Executes on policy and formulary decisions in collaboration with Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Develops systems to ensure optimal therapeutic drug utilization. Anticipates and creates plans to manage new drug costs and supply chain related shortages, incorporating new technologies that enhance operational performance.

  • Directly responsible for clinical & operational functions for both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations to ensure smooth daily operations, quality, safety, and continuous improvement in patient care

  • Directly responsible for 340(b), Retail Pharmacy and Associate Pharmacy operations

  • Creates, manages, coordinates, and executes all operational strategies and implements tactical plans to meet and exceed company expectations

  • Negotiates contracts for competitive advantage with pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesale distributors, group purchasing organizations

  • Accountable for compliance with organizational policies, state and federal regulations for all pharmacy locations, and accreditation body requirements, including Department of Public Health (DPH), Board of Pharmacy, product safety and clinical care delivery

  • Aligns and coordinates pharmacy service Joint Commission preparedness and readiness. Ensures high risk areas have consistent performance.

  • Ensures policies and procedures for drug diversion surveillance programs are within compliance and functioning at the highest level across the health system.

  • Provides leadership direction and facilitates implementation of medication safety related initiatives, including quality improvement initiatives, to improve value across the medication use continuum.

  • Oversees reporting, monitoring, and performance to operating metrics, leveraging data to understand and take actions needed to improve patient experience & outcomes

  • Advises health system leadership and management regarding anticipated trends in health care, drug therapy, and pharmacy practice and what may be needed to support those changes.

  • Partners with physician and nursing and leaders to organize effective clinical operations to meet and exceed the needs of patients and prescribers

  • Collaborates with other leaders Nursing, Revenue Cycle and all Clinical areas to achieve and surpass profitability, cash flow, and organizational goals and objectives

  • Facilitates problem resolution, implements timely improvements and enhanced working relations, when needed, across pharmacy locations and interdisciplinary teams

  • Communicates as needed with appropriate leadership concerning new developments and/or problems within the pharmacy service line

  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, development, and performance management of employees

  • In partnership with other pharmacy leaders directs short-term and long-range planning and budget development for the region to support strategic business goals

  • Participates in business development activities to support development of functional, efficient, and patient-oriented programs

  • Identifies and assesses potential new business opportunities in conjunction with Senior leadership

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Required Knowledge and Skill:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies, and vendors.

  • Experience articulating a vision and strategy in a way that inspires and motivates a team and focuses their energy on achieving business goals

  • Intermediate or higher proficiency working with MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Demonstrated excellent skills in written and spoken format

  • Possess a passion for and commitment to a patient centered care and customer driven culture

  • Education: A Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy is preferred

  • Experience (Type & Length): Minimum of 10 years of progressive hospital pharmacy leadership experience; Experience in the entire continuum of care (e.g., inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, regulatory) is desirable

  • Certification/Licensure:

  • Software/Hardware: MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

    Other: 5+ years of experience managing budgets and P&L oversight; 3+ years of experience within Change Management/Process Standardization; Significant experience in 340(b) program management
