Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Learning Systems Designer in Brookline, Massachusetts

Reporting to the Program Manager, Nursing Education and working in partnership with administrative and clinical colleagues throughout Nursing and Patient Care Services, the Learning Systems Designer is responsible for management of the Learning Management System for the department, including development and maintenance of courses, and administrative leadership for the Nursing Education Program. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated expertise in administration of Learning Management Systems and experience with project management. The Learning Systems Designer will be an essential member of the Nursing Education team, contributing to goal-planning and problem-solving. Qualified candidates must be detail-oriented, collaborative, creative, with strong communication skills.

Learning Management System

  • Serves as NPCS department administrator for the HealthStream Learning Management System, accountable for user experience and answering tickets submitted by users requiring help with the platform.

  • Manages and maintains a schedule of annual and new hire educational courses for NPCS staff, assists with editing, and ensures timely release of assignments.

  • Develops expertise in workforce structure and confirms digital learning needs are met for diverse, large department.

  • Utilizes LMS to ensure education is documented.

E-Learning Development

  • Consults with subject matter experts on learning strategies, collaborating to produce effective new digital coursework using eLearning authoring software (Articulate).

  • Utilizes best practices for adult learning in course development, including incorporating multi-modal strategies such as gamification and scenario-based learning.

  • Maintains, updates, and evaluates existing library of courses.

  • May produce basic videos, animated graphics, and voiceovers.

Project Management

  • Designs, implements, and evaluates workflows that support Nursing Education operations, initiatives, goals, and strategic management.

  • Oversees logistical aspects of nursing professional development initiatives, ranging from day-to-day priorities to major roll-outs;

  • Manages communications planning and execution related to different internal initiatives – emails, newsletters, calendars, intranet, etc.

  • Develops, plans, and manages timelines and deliverables, tracks completion of projects, and evaluates project success.

  • Coordinates teams of colleagues in collaboration on a project; effectively communicates with customers and collaborators to ensure timely completion of deliverables.

  • Provides analysis and reporting on programmatic goals and individual initiatives.

  • Develops, maintains, and manages standard operating procedures associated with varied programs, projects, and events.

  • Supports professional development-related meetings

  • May develop programmatic training content such as reference guides, FAQs, and instructional videos.

  • May work on special assignments, events, and projects as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Expertise with project management fundamentals, familiarity or experience with Learning Management Systems administration, and the ability to provide leadership in executing overall program goals.

  • Detail-oriented, must produce high quality work

  • Willingness to embrace both complex and simple tasks.

  • Strong writer and communicator, strong customer service skills essential.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new things in order to create education or solve problems.

  • Willingness to accept feedback and learn from mistakes

  • Familiarity with principles of adult learning and instructional systems design as well as program planning and evaluation principles a plus.

  • Experience using project management software and tools.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Flexible, collaborative, and self-directed team member.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to learn and absorb information quickly.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May supervise administrative staff, and workforce development students or interns.

  • Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred.

  • 2 years of learning management systems platform management experience required. Experience working in a medical or academic setting preferred.

  • 2 years of experience with course authoring tools preferred.

  • 1 year of experience with project coordination/management.
