The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. Roles & Responsibilities
Support individual student planning and goal-setting
Provide short-term counseling to students
Refer students for long-term support as needed
Collaborate with families/teachers/ administrators/ community for student success
Advocate for students at individual student support planning meetings and other student-focused meetings
Utilize data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges
Deliver school counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards
Act as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement, and opportunities for all students
Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations
Qualifications
Master's degree in school counseling
2+ years of experience as a school counselor
Familiarity and/or expertise with the American School Counselor’s Association program standards are preferred
Working knowledge of school counseling models, methods, and resources
Ability to identify and respond to students' needs
Excellent listening and problem-solving skills
Must be patient and compassionate
Knowledge of various methods to prevent or treat mental-health problems and other difficulties
Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults
Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community
Motivation for and interest in professional development
Ability to think independently and along with collaborate in a team environment
High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
Maintain focus and adaptability in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
The ability to effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner
The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)
Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc.
Physical Requirements
The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.
The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.
The ability to position oneself (e.g., stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students.
The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs
The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
