The Position
The Controller role is a hands-on position in a privately held mid-sized engineering consulting firm with an annual revenue in the $25M-$30M range. The role’s 40-hour work week will have a flexible and hybrid work schedule based on the most current Company policies. The in-person location is AHA’s main office in Burlington, MA. The role will also include the supervision and management of an existing three-person accounting staff located in the Burlington, MA office. This position will report to designated Managing Partner(s) as well as work collaboratively with the Director of Human Resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
Oversee the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Manage the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of entries.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal Board of Directors.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
Provide financial forecasting and variance analysis.
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure financial stability.
Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions.
Communicate and coordinate with financial institution/bank regarding cash accounts as well as operating line of credit
Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors.
Maintain accurate records to meet regulatory and legal requirements.
Strategic Support:
Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Evaluate and recommend improvements to financial systems, processes, and controls.
Collaborate with Director of Human Resources
Collaborate with Managing Partners and Board of Directors
Team Leadership:
Manage and mentor a small accounting team, ensuring their professional development.
Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration within the finance team.
Position Qualifications (Required)
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a small to mid sized professional services or consulting firm environment with a minimum of 3 years of experience at the Controller level.
Strong interpersonal skills who can effectively supervise, manage, delegate as well as continue to develop and motivate the existing staff on site
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Deltek, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
Experience with financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Position Qualifications (Preferred)
MBA or CPA / CMA (plus but no required)
Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint
Periodic travel to other AHA offices
