Software Systems Engineering Senior Manager - Burlington, MA
The Embedded Software Systems Engineering Manager (Manager, Embedded Software Systems Engineering) will be accountable for leading multiple Embedded Software System engineering teams responsible for delivering & leading software systems engineering tasks for entire programs or significant portions of novel programs, more specifically related to a C, Linux and RTOS based Clinician and Patient facing applications and its related software applications. Working at our site in Burlington, this role ensures the logical and systematic conversion of System requirements, Interfaces, tolerances, and performance requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. You will be applying an expert understanding of Embedded applications, customer needs to be addressed, and architecting solutions to streamline product development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Build and manage a high-performance software system engineering teams by developing, mentoring and coaching each engineer as appropriate. Inspire team members to achieve individual and project goals for on-time product delivery with exceptional quality
Drive development of software requirements, risk analysis, architecture, Interface specifications and functionality - emphasizing modularity, portability and reuse for product and non-product software.
Guide software architecture and technology stack for traceability, future needs, and scalability
As needed be comfortable delving into the code base to reverse engineer the application and guide the team to write appropriate requirements & design.
Ensure 62304 compliance and cybersecurity support throughout software systems engineering lifecycles through setup of AAMI requirements framework and SOP’s.
Lead software system development work with external partners and subcontractors through use of UML, Jira and DOORS. Work with them to ensure that the work is on schedule, delivered with the quality and consistency for our patients and adheres to our SOP’s. Demonstrate accountability for project success.
Plan, execute and track projects and resources to meet goals.
Ensure compliance with Abbott quality policies, procedures, and practices
Work effectively in cross-functional teams consisting of: Clinical, Design & Usability, Marketing, R&D, Quality, and Regulatory
Experience and Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biomed Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
5+ years’ experience managing teams to deliver software systems / systems from concept to delivery.
10+ years’ experience delivering Embedded software systems in a regulated environment
Sound decision making and risk analysis skills
Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver on project commitments
Strong leadership skills, including goal setting and providing positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build relationships and improve business results
Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate clearly to upper management and stakeholders in different functions at various levels
Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills to hold others accountable
Ability to work effectively a fast-paced changing environment.
Ability to travel approximately 15%.
Preferred Qualifications / Education:
Advance level degree in Computer Science, Biomed Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline with 8+ years’ experience delivering software systems / systems in a regulated environment.
Experience in the Class III Medical Devices domain.
Hands on experience with software development in a regulated environment.
Understanding of IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 standards.
