ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT II, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to provide administrative support to the SPARC chief engineer and principal investigators. Responsibilities will include scheduling and arranging meetings; handling telephone inquiries and fielding questions from PSFC personnel, other MIT areas, and the public; making domestic and foreign travel arrangements for the SPARC group and for submitting online travel expense reports and related documents; using the MIT purchasing systems to procure goods and services for the SPARC research and engineering team and processing requests for payment and invoices; assisting with coordination of major events when needed, e.g., booking rooms, ordering refreshments, setup, breakdown, etc.; typing, scanning, and photocopying; maintaining filing systems and project documentation; and ordering, organizing, and maintaining all necessary office supplies. MIT PSFC is an internationally recognized facility at the forefront of plasma physics and fusion energy research.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least three years’ direct/related experience; strong communications and interpersonal skills; willingness to work with researchers, graduate students, and other staff to solve administrative problems and provide for their administrative needs; ability to manage a varied workload involving multiple tasks in parallel, often under pressure of deadlines; strong computer skills and proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (or similar calendar), email, and Acrobat; and the ability to identify and learn new programs and software skills as necessary. Seek a well-organized, detail-oriented individual who enjoys the challenge of working in a stimulating and fast-moving office environment and demonstrates flexibility and good judgment in the face of changing priorities and unplanned distractions. Knowledge of MIT or a similar research environment highly desirable. Associate’s/bachelor’s degree preferred.
