City of Cambridge Administrative Hearings Officer in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The City of Cambridge Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department supports the safety and health of the Cambridge community by creating and sustaining a high-quality street and parking system that supports a range of transportation options for all those who live, travel, and park in Cambridge. ABOUT THE ROLE: The Administrative Hearings Officer will perform a key role in the parking ticket dispute process. The Administrative Hearings Officer will determine whether a disputed parking ticket was issued in compliance with the City?s Traffic and Parking Regulations. The Administrative Hearings Officer will review parking ticket disputes, do research, conduct administrative hearings, and issue decisions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform all duties required to determine whether a parking ticket is valid and issued in compliance with the City of Cambridge?s Traffic and Parking Regulations. Analyze, research, and understand the City of Cambridge Traffic and Parking Regulations, and issue decisions related to parking ticket disputes. Conduct administrative hearings. Communicate the hearing decision to the person attending the hearing and advise them of their appellate rights. Engage with constituents to educate and promote compliance with traffic and parking regulations. Maintain knowledge of the Parking Management Information System related to the adjudication of parking tickets. Access third-party parking payment databases/systems to determine payment status of a parking session. Collaborate with the Parking Services Manager and other staff involved in the adjudication process. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor\'s degree in pre-law, law, public administration, political science or other relevant field plus three or more years of experience in customer service, public administration or government or an equivalent combination of education/experience required. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, especially in making fair and impartial decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to interpret the City of Cambridge Traffic and Parking Regulations and on-street signage. Ability to evaluate evidence and render a decision in a short and clear manner.
