Routine duties are performed to ensure proper handling and care of special anesthesia equipment used in patient care preoperatively.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  •  Performs diverse duties to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness of anesthesia equipment and monitors. Follows established safety procedures. 

  • Maintains anesthesia equipment. Becomes familiar with all anesthesia monitoring equipment. 

  • Maintains stock levels of anesthesia supplies and medications from the hospital supply system and outside sources for the main operating room and delivery room. 

  • Maintains stock in each operating room and the anesthesiology work area in a neat and orderly condition. Troubleshoots equipment as necessary.

  • Assists the anesthesiologist as necessary during the procedure of inserting infusion lines. 

  • Delivers and sets up special equipment needed for major surgical cases. 

  • Performs other related duties as required or as directed, which may include cleaning duties in operating and delivery rooms. Arranges set up of equipment for the following day's procedures as needed. 

  • Reports problems/outcomes to lead cardiovascular nurse.

  • Works under the direction of the lead cardiovascular anesthesiology nurse.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, normally acquired through the completion of high school or equivalent. Training as an anesthesia technician is preferred. 

  • One year of related healthcare experience, preferably with some familiarity with anesthesia equipment. 

  • Good interpersonal skills. 

Physical Requirements & Environment:

  • The operating room environment holds a risk of exposure to infectious diseases or other hazards. 

  • Walks and stands up to 90% of the work time. 

  • Must be able to push and pull heavy weights (including patients) and lift 50 pounds.

  • Essential functions require the ability to distinguish colors up to 75% of work time.

  • Protective eye equipment, protective clothes coverage, and gloves are necessary for up to 75% of work time.
