Microsoft Corporation Applied Scientist – Medical, Health, & Genomics – Microsoft Health Futures in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Biomedical ML team at Microsoft Health Futures and Microsoft Research New England is looking for an Applied Scientist to work at the interface of AI and the life sciences. This role is located in Cambridge, MA.

Specific areas of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Single-cell genomics (e.g., transcriptomics)

  • Biomedical imaging (e.g., microscopy and/or digital pathology)

  • Protein biology and engineering

  • Multimodal learning across biological modalities (e.g., imaging and omics)

Responsibilities

  • Define and grow research at the intersection of AI and the life sciences.

  • Design and execute data analytic strategies; implement and maintain codebases; visualize experimental results.

  • Design and lead independent research projects towards scientific publications and open-source software packages.

  • Actively engage in collaborative relationships with groups inside or outside of Microsoft, providing expertise and presenting work. Communicate results to a diverse audience of computational researchers, experimental biologists, trainees, and professional scientists, across industry and academia.

  • Understand and follow ethics and privacy policies when executing research processes.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Relevant internship or research experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analysis, research)

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with other researchers and a commitment to cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or field related to machine learning/statistics or biology/chemistry (e.g., Computer Science, Chemical Engineering/Chemistry, Bioengineering/Computational Biology, or related field) AND 2+ years relevant experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analysis, research) OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or field related to machine learning/statistics or biology/chemistry OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND

  • 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ year(s) experience creating publications (e.g., patents, peer-reviewed academic papers).

  • Experience conducting research as part of a research team or lab (in academic or industry setting)

  • Experience producing or contributing to scientific publications (e.g., academic papers, patents)

  • Experience with scientific programming in Python, modern machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch), and high-performance computing systems

  • Experience developing and maintaining open-source scientific code

Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
