AREA MANAGER, FACILITIES OPERATIONS, Facilities, to oversee the maintenance of a portfolio of MIT’s physical buildings, coordinating and facilitating a proactive identification of issues and applying preventive maintenance strategies.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: B.S. in mechanical engineering; ten years’ experience and evidence of a path to a P.E. license; experience with plumbing and fire protection systems design, construction, and maintenance; experience with waste/chemical wastewater systems; experience managing across a broad range of facilities management challenges in a large, multi-building repair and maintenance environment such as that of an institutional or corporate setting; experience overseeing a significant budget; working knowledge of MA building and licensing code; ability to direct and converse technically with engineers and architects regarding campus utility systems and the maintenance, operation, design, and construction of campus buildings; thorough knowledge of maintenance equipment operation and design; experience with the design, operation, and maintenance of cleanroom facilities and laboratory safety systems; experience with HVAC, electric power, piping and plumbing systems, exhaust fans, and machinery required to maintain building-wide supply of compressed air, house vacuum, and process cooling water systems; experience in process-specific aspects of semiconductor and materials fabrication; thorough knowledge of MS Office; ability to negotiate, gain consensus, and lead in a complex and collaborative environment; excellent customer service, interpersonal, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence and collaborate in a team-based environment and deal effectively with a range of customers. PREFERRED: master’s in fire protection engineering; P.E. license; experience with water conservation and technologies with sustainable goals; CMMS/CAFM experience; and project management experience, including on plumbing and fire protection projects. Job #21701-11 Working conditions include walking/standing for extended periods of time to cover the campus. Repair and Maintenance is a 24/7 operation requiring the ability to respond to emergencies on any shift or holiday as necessary. The position requires a full-time presence on campus. 8/11/22
