About This Role The associate scientist role supports the generation of AAV candidates for the preclinical gene therapy pipeline. This role will be responsible for purification of AAV-based gene therapies through chromatography, ultrafiltration and diafiltration, in addition to basic characterization. Prior experience with FPLC purification of proteins or viral vectors is desired, with the ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of AAV purification through reading literature in the field. This role will report to the preclinical downstream process lead scientist in the Vector Production & Purification subteam of the Gene Therapy Accelerator Unit at Biogen. * * What You’ll Do * Purification and analytical characterization of AAV-based clinical candidates * Support the development of new protocols for AAV production, purification and characterization * Maintain organized and detailed electronic records, submitted in a timely manner * Report data to team members through written reports and direct collaboration Why Biogen? Together, we thrive. * The ideal candidate should have experience in protein and/or viral vector purification, and biochemical assays. Experience with AAV purification is a plus. The candidate will appreciate learning new technological skills in a highly collaborative environment. * Required Skills * BS/MS degree in Biochemistry, Biology or related field and 1+ years of industry experience * Hands-on experience with affinity and ion exchange purification for protein and/or viral vectors * Working proficiency with AKTA systems and Unicorn 6/7 software with capacity to develop, optimize and troubleshoot new protocols and methods * Proven experience with basic analytical techniques (LAL assays, SDS-PAGE, Western blots) * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members * Ability to multitask, adapt to highly dynamic environments and effectively prioritize Preferred Skills * Hands-on experience with AAV purification * Previous experience with mammalian cell culture and bench scale bioreactors All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
