    Job Description

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR ANIMAL WELFARE AND COMPLIANCE, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to act as the primary liaison coordinating the activities of the Committee for Animal Care (CAC), MIT’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), with those of DCM to optimize compliance with all regulations and guidelines; oversee the researcher training and post-approval monitoring program; and contribute as a clinical/research veterinarian within the veterinary care program. Will join a ten-veterinarian team fulfilling DCM’s mission to provide the very best in animal care and collaborative research support, and be an integral part of an established comparative medicine training program. Opportunities for collaborative and/or independent research abound and will be encouraged. DCM (https://comp-med.mit.edu/) serves as the primary resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models within the MIT community.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or equivalent training with ECFVG certification; license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state and ability to become licensed in Massachusetts; at least two years’ experience working in some capacity with an IACUS and other regulatory oversight of animal research; expertise and interest in the regulations/guidelines that govern animal research; hands-on clinical experience; and ability to work effectively as part of a team. PREFERRED: formal training in comparative medicine with diplomate status in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or at least two years’ experience practicing or training in veterinary medicine in a research setting and understanding of relevant regulations/guidelines; and experience collaborating with researchers, mentoring students, and advising on model selection and protocol development in this capacity.
