Position Description

The Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position focused on artificial intelligence in medicine. We seek a visionary researcher who will help shape the future of evidence-based medicine through innovative AI approaches that are rigorously developed, clinically validated, and thoughtfully implemented to enhance patient care.

This unique position bridges cutting-edge academic research with real-world clinical impact through a secondary academic appointment in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (within the Mass General Brigham ( MGB ) healthcare system).

Basic Qualifications

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in clinical AI research and a compelling vision for translating computational advances into improvements in healthcare delivery. They will have access to extensive computational resources, rich clinical data assets, and the opportunity to collaborate with both world-class academic researchers and clinical innovators actively transforming care delivery.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about training the next generation of leaders in AI and medicine through teaching and mentoring in our new AI Medicine PhD Program. They will help develop a curriculum that emphasizes not just technical excellence, but also the critical examination of how AI can be developed and deployed in ways that enhance the human elements of healthcare.

This position offers the opportunity to:

  • Conduct groundbreaking research at the intersection of AI and clinical care.

  • Translate innovations directly into clinical practice at a leading healthcare system

  • Shape how AI technologies can support rather than supplant clinical judgment

  • Mentor students who will lead the ethical development of AI in healthcare

  • Help build more equitable, effective, and human-centered healthcare systems

We particularly welcome candidates who can contribute to the department’s commitment to developing AI systems that reduce rather than amplify healthcare disparities and that augment rather than automate the essential human relationships in medicine.
