Sage Therapeutics Associate Director, Clinical Metrics and Reporting in Cambridge, Massachusetts

General Scope and Summary

Sage Therapeutics is searching for a creative builder who can develop, create, and maintain a practical, data-driven solution to measure vendor performance. This role is part of a newly formed team responsible for oversight and relationship management for Sage Clinical Development vendors. The insights provided by the solution implemented will help to inform decisions around vendor selection, risk mitigation, and governance, enabling solid outsourcing and oversight strategies that support patient safety and pipeline progression.

Roles and Responsibilities

Metrics development and implementation:

  • Ensure that appropriate performance and business metrics are developed, generated, and maintained in a metrics library regularly reviewed to monitor vendor performance and diagnose success criteria, gaps, and deficiencies. Achieve this through a partnership with functional leaders and operational teams to drive change and ensure consistency/connectivity for vendors and Sage.

  • Support stakeholders in accessing, understanding, and applying the information provided through metrics analysis.

Metrics compilation and reporting:

  • Additionally, compile metrics regularly to report to the stakeholder network in a structured format.

  • Proactively share insights with operational leadership on vendor performance with potential for ad hoc support of department process and resource and business benchmarking.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Support development, implementation, and governance of vendor relationship scorecards.

  • Create dashboarding at vendor, service, and functional levels (data review and analysis to drive strategy development).

  • Support development of vendor database structure and meta fields for future software build and rollout.

Experience, Education, and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships through partnership and influence, good negotiation skills, and the ability to identify issues and raise critical stakeholders to support remediation and mitigation of future risks. Must have a demonstrated analytical mind with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies and plans. Prior experience working through implementing a metrics program with internal and external parties is preferred.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific, business, or equivalent field.

  • 6+ years of pharma/biotech/CRO industry-related experience or equivalent, including at least 3+ years of experience in clinical services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (JD/MS/MA/MBA/MHA/PhD).

  • Solid experience in building a framework/structure and process for performance data review and reporting to inform decisions and strategies.

  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to prioritize critical needs, act decisively, and handle a high volume of complex tasks within a given timeframe.

  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and benchmarking and process analysis skills; must have a high degree of energy, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Outstanding communication skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills, an innovative problem-solving approach, and complex negotiation and influence skills.

  • Ability to work independently and successfully in a matrix environment and to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence more significant outcomes.

  • Strong team player with a customer service approach and solution-oriented approach.

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; SharePoint experience beneficial.
