As Associate Director Global Program Management, Disease Area X (DAx) you will provide program management expertise as an individual contributor to early-stage drug development programs. In close partnership with Head of DAx Portfolio Strategy and Program Management, you will work with programs across stages from Project Start/Portfolio Entry onwards including (B)DC, IDPA and TDP planning. Key to your success driving the creation and execution of integrated strategic and operational plans for drug candidates, building impactful cross-functional teams, and navigating stakeholders across the R-D-C continuum.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead project teams with respect to the timing, scenario/options development, risk management, opportunities / challenges, and requirements of interfacing with Decision Boards.

  • Partner with project team leaders and functional leaders to define project strategies, develop and maintain integrated project plans, and manage diverse teams across multiple sites to meet project timelines and goals

  • Bring clarity to complex drug discovery/development programs by identifying core issues and developing scenarios that provide a range of risk taking

  • Use drug discovery and development expertise (especially preclinical and early clinical development) to integrate knowledge and planning of all line functions for project

  • Ensuring that key landmarks and go / no go criteria are clearly defined, data driven, and captured accurately in portfolio systems

  • Fostering effective, proactive and open communication within and across project teams in order to achieve transparency and clarity of program goals, progress and issues

Additional/other accountabilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Facilitating Disease Area decision Board meeting topics and partnering with board chairs to reach clearly articulated decisions

  • Structuring and coordinating external collaborations / alliances to deliver drug candidates into the DAx portfolio

  • Mentoring other program managers within and across Biomedical Research to strengthen internal talents, and sharing program management takeaways across other DAs

  • Leading and contributing to Biomedical Research GPM initiatives

Role Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Masters or Doctorate in life sciences, or MBA with bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in life science

  • Previous track record of success in working with multidisciplinary drug discovery & development teams.

  • Demonstrated expertise in project leadership and/or program management skills

  • Expert knowledge in drug development

  • PMP certification (or similar) preferred but not required

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $144,000 to $216,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
