Draper, an engineering research and development institution, is seeking an Associate Director in Cambridge, MA to lead the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) Program Area for the Strategic Guidance, Navigation and Control Business Area. The Associate Director of the SEIT Program Area will be leading and managing a portfolio of large scale, complex, and cross functional projects associated with the design and development of new avionics, including an inertial measurement unit, for the Fleet Ballistic Missile supporting the US Navy’s Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile program. This role will be working closely with senior leaders in the Strategic Systems Program Office and across Draper to develop and implement the strategy to allow successful execution of the new avionics development. Specific responsibilities for the SEIT Associate Director will be the following:

  • Develop, implement and oversee the execution of a strategy for the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test program area within Strategic Systems focused on the design and development of MK6 LE2.

  • Provide leadership required to implement the SEIT strategy through the program office directors, engineering leadership, and supporting staff

  • Management of all cost, schedule and technical aspects of the SEIT program area including serving as the primary customer interface.

  • Ensure the SEIT program area meets all contractual requirements throughout execution, including the development of appropriate processes to ensure requirements are consistently met.

  • Provide consistent and timely reporting of status of Program Area to senior leadership supporting overall business cadence including Weekly and Monthly Program Reviews by developing and maintaining appropriate metrics and key performance indicators for Program Area.

  • Successfully recruit and retain a highly talented and diverse team of program managers to help manage overall execution and work with engineering leadership to support the hiring, training, development, and retention of the engineering staff required to execute the program activities.

  • Lead the development of the Model Based Engineering processes and approaches for the MK6 LE2 Program including requirements and architecture management; descriptive system modeling; virtual system simulation; and digital twin development.

  • Lead the MK6 LE2 SWS and Guidance System Architecture development including the prioritization of key technology enablers.

  • Lead the development and flow down of requirements supporting the MK6 LE2 design and development activities.

  • Lead the development of the overall Systems Integration and Test approaches for the MK6 LE2 Program including development of the infrastructure required to support.

Technical Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering or Science field is desired; Advanced degree preferred

  • Broad technical knowledge of strategic guidance, navigation and control technologies and requirements

  • Previous experience and technical knowledge of Strategic Systems Programs and Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile technology is highly desired

  • Experience with model-based engineering methodologies

  • Experience with both hardware and software design and development methodologies

Leadership Qualifications:

  • 10-20 years of experience within a leadership / management role managing complex technology projects and large-scale systems

  • Effective collaboration skills to be a key contributing member of Draper’s Senior Leadership Team

  • Experience building relationships with functional leaders across an organization and ability to collaborate with stakeholders to understand the business’ current state and develop data-driven insights that can drive organizational-wide goals and strategies

  • Possesses excellent business judgment, strong written and oral communication skills, and a practical, common-sense approach to getting things done

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to make data-driven decisions

  • Ability to hold themselves and others accountable to high standards of success

  • Ability to motivate, empower, and develop others

  • Strong meeting management and negotiation skills

  • Proven track record of demonstrating high integrity behaviors

  • Demonstrated success in previous leadership role(s)

  • Prior DoD experience and knowledge

  • Current relationships with the Navy/Strategic partnerships as it relates to Draper’s existing work is strongly desired

Security Requirement:

  • Current in scope Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
