Strategy & Program Management

The Associate Director oversees a team of approximately thirteen staff (6 direct reports and 7 indirect reports) who manage the following programmatic areas:

· Public Programs: conferences, symposiums, seminars on a range of topics.

· Student Programs: summer internships; student travel grants; J-Term and Study Abroad programs.

· Academic Programs: visiting scholars and fellows, visiting professors, seed grants to Harvard faculty.

Working with staff, the Associate Director oversees the strategy, implementation, evaluation and monitoring efforts of the above areas. This includes managing resource allocation, establishing annual objectives with staff, and supervising the successful execution of those objectives as well as faculty engagement in all those areas. The Associate Director also oversees the cross-functional coordination between the programmatic areas, fomenting the flow of information and the establishment of collaborative initiatives that advance the center’s strategic planning. As such, the Associate Director will foment team building exercises and create spaces of productive collaboration, ensuring that teams are working effectively both vertically and in alignment across programmatic areas to support cohesive and integrated outcomes.

Development & Stewardship

Working with the Executive Director, the Associate Director supports the design and execution of the center's development strategy. This includes but is not limited to the following:

· Develop a strategy for engaging our Advisory Board as well as our in-region advisory boards from our overseas offices (Brazil, Chile and Mexico currently).

· Collaborate with the communications team to draft the center's annual report and to develop and monitor a portfolio of stewardship activities and outputs, including donor acknowledgments, fund reports, annual appeals, and campaigns.

· Draft solicitation proposals and materials for foundations, corporations and individual donors.

· Support the ED on cultivating new and lapsed donors for the center, including doing research and briefings on prospective donors and members of our advisory board.

· Proactively identify new donors and develop cultivation strategies, engaging with the University Development Office and FAS Development as needed.

· Help identify, implement and maintain systems and protocols for donor tracking and engagement.

· Develop processes for continued improvement on our donor engagement and stewardship practices and data collection efforts.

· Other duties as assigned.

The Associate Director is part of the senior leadership team of DRCLAS. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the role will be deployed as a deputy and will be required to fill in for the Faculty Director and Executive Director when needed. The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the strategy and successful execution of programmatic activities of the Cambridge Office, as well as collaborating with the ED on center-wide strategy and development efforts.
