  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience is required.

  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, human resource management, and communication skills necessary.

  • Experience in a service organization, preferably in higher education.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in dealing with internal and external partners.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience as an HR business partner in a matrixed organization preferred.

  • Experience maintaining a strict standard of confidentiality and ability to communicate with a diverse group of people with sensitivity.

  • Takes initiative and ownership of work, following through to completion and executing with an appropriate sense of urgency.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Strong business knowledge and judgment, connecting human resources practices with units’ objectives and needs.

  • Line management experience with extensive involvement in people management issues.

  • Proven ability to provide advice and counsel across a complex organization.

  • Experience developing and implementing successful internal communication programs.

  • Requires ability to multi-task and proven planning and project management skills.

  • Excellent project management skills.

Additional Information:This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday – Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

The Assistant Director’s principal duties and responsibilities include:

Human Resource Management: Partner with the Director to work with DRFD managers on a broad spectrum of human resource strategies and programs including but not limited to organization design, staff relations, staffing, on-boarding, training and development, retention, succession planning, staff recognition, and performance management. Serve as a resource to DRFD staff and managers on HU and HBS HR policies and industry best practices.

  • Manage day-to-day HR and organizational operations within the DRFD, partnering with the Director to develop and manage HR related processes, activities, programs, and best practices.

  • Talent Acquisition: Takes the lead in supporting the talent acquisition process by working with managers to identify successful candidates. Together with the Director, acts as an advisor to hiring managers at every step of the search process. Partner with the Director and HBS HR to manage the recruiting process including advertisement and outreach, candidate pool development, screening of resumes and candidates, conducting interviews, advising on final selection, offers and on-boarding.

  • Staff Development: Assess training and development needs and assist in identifying programs for skills and career development. Manage participation process and work with managers on integration between development programs and work. Provides guidance to managers and staff on the annual performance management program. Supports on-boarding activities and assists managers in following best practices in this area.

  • Data Integrity and Management: Track and maintain detailed, accurate, and current data/information in the DRFD HR database and other data tracking tools to inform strategic decision making. Assemble and analyze data, assist with preparation of proposals, presentations, correspondence, and other written output.

  • Employee engagement and staff recognition: Partner with HBS HR to ensure high levels of employee engagement including action planning around engagement survey results. Facilitates the Rewards and Recognition program. Identifies opportunities at both the DRFD and team level to support employee engagement and provide avenue for building culture and community.

Internal Communications: With Sr Managing Director and Director, develop a comprehensive internal communication strategy that utilizes a variety of communication channels to share information. Manage content for the DRFD HUB, a DRFD share site for DRFD information. Maintain DRFD org charts, distribution lists, and Emergency Plan. Serve as liaison with HBS Marketing and Communications department as appropriate.

Culture and community: Partner with Director and SMD to define and implement programs to support the organizational culture. Assist with agenda planning and logistics for DRFD all-staff meetings and events. Manage morale funds. Help identify and conduct benchmarking assessments.

Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain active knowledge of evolving laws, regulations, policies, and privacy practices that apply to human resource management through continuous professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
