    At Boston Area Rape Crisis Center we are committed to empowering survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones by providing critical support and advocacy. Our Case Management Team plays a vital role in guiding survivors through complex challenges, connecting them with essential resources like health insurance, emergency shelter, victim compensation, and public benefits, while also ensuring their safety and well-being. Our team not only provides direct support but also works on policy advocacy at the local and state levels, partnering with government agencies, service providers, and community organizations to improve economic justice for survivors.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Case Manager plays a crucial role in BARCC’s mission to support survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. This position provides trauma-informed advocacy, crisis intervention, and direct support to survivors as they navigate complex systems such as housing, health care, public benefits, and financial assistance. Case Managers work one-on-one with survivors to ensure they have access to critical resources, advocate for policy changes that promote economic justice, and collaborate with community partners, government agencies, and service providers to remove systemic barriers. The demand for case management services has significantly increased, highlighting the importance of this role in providing safety, stability, and empowerment for survivors.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered advocacy, emotional support, and crisis intervention.

  • Assist survivors in navigating complex systems (housing, public benefits, health insurance, victim compensation, housing legal protections, etc.).

  • Conduct safety planning for survivors experiencing harassment, stalking, or threats to their well-being.

  • Offer culturally responsive services to a diverse community of survivors.

  • Provide accompaniment to housing agencies, including housing courts and benefits offices, including Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), Social Security Administration, and Department of Unemployment Assistance offices to navigate the application process to ensure survivors can access vital resources.

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of client interactions in compliance with agency protocols.

  • Assist with applications for survivor-specific housing programs, transitional housing, coordinated entry systems, and permanent affordable housing.

  • Provide education on housing rights and protections for survivors, including legal accommodations under local, state, and federal laws.

  • Advocate for policy changes that promote housing stability and economic justice for survivors.

  • Offer financial advocacy, helping survivors access survivor funds and other emergency funds.

  • Help survivors understand and apply for public benefits, including TAFDC, SNAP, SSI, SSDI, EAEDC, unemployment insurance, and WIC.

  • Become a Certified Application Counselor (CAC) to assist survivors with health insurance enrollment and recertifications.

  • Screen for affordable health insurance eligibility and assist survivors in accessing necessary medical, mental health, and substance use treatment services.

  • Provide guidance on transportation benefits, home health services, and other medical resources covered by insurance.

  • Act as a resource for other BARCC staff regarding health insurance options and coverage for survivors.

  • Partner with survivors to identify employment needs and barriers, and collaborate wih providers and connect them with employment support programs like MassHire

  • Work with financial coaches to support survivors in financial literacy and long-term economic stability.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, housing providers, public agencies, and advocacy groups.

  • Stay informed on the latest policies, best practices, and survivor resources through regular professional development.

  • Engage in team meetings, agency-wide initiatives, and collaborative projects to further BARCC’s mission.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for BARCC’s mission to end sexual violence and promote social change.

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct client work experience in housing advocacy, public benefits, financial assistance, or social services.

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) or equivalent experience.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Boston-area resources, especially those serving survivors, low-income individuals, and marginalized communities.

  • Experience working with survivors of trauma, violence, and abuse.

  • Excellent crisis management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Comfort working over the phone, in person, and using a database for case management.

  • Willingness to accompany survivors to appointments as needed.

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and survivor-centered advocacy.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Hybrid role with in-person client meetings and office-based work. Occasional evening hours to support survivor needs. Ability to travel locally for client support and agency collaborations. Must be comfortable with occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs) and sitting/standing for extended periods.
