Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Co-op student to join our Discovery Biology Immunology Team in Cambridge, MA. Our team focuses on early drug discovery for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including target identification, validation, screening assay development and characterization of drug mechanism of action. This position offers hands-on learning and exposure to basic drug discovery principles related to autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The candidate will gain experience in human and mouse immune cell culture and assay development to support early discovery proof-of-concept studies and optimize biologics/ small molecules for the treatment of autoimmune disorders. The Co-op student will learn various lab techniques used in immunology drug discovery and receive coaching in experimental design, data analysis, critical thinking, and presentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain mammalian cell lines in culture for use in a variety of experimental systems.

  • Isolation of primary cells from human blood and mouse blood/tissues.

  • Perform basic laboratory techniques including luciferase reporter assays, ELISA/MSD/Luminex assays, PCR/qPCR and automated Western Blot.

  • Characterize the immune response in primary cell-based assays, support biology read outs from in vivo mouse models including analysis of cytokine/chemokine secretion, antibody secretion, and flow cytometry analysis.

  • Analyze and report experimental findings in a detailed electronic lab notebook, with multiple opportunities to present work at team meetings and department immunology meeting.

  • Additional technical opportunities are possible depending on project needs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Enrollment in University Bachelor's or Master's degree program studying relevant scientific discipline with at least two (2) years of cell biology and/or molecular biology course work.

  • Minimum three (3) semesters of laboratory course work

  • Understanding of cell biology and immunology techniques with preferred hands-on experience in cell culture or tissue culture. Prior work experience preferred.

  • Experience in independently generating precise, reliable data and analysis.

  • Strong academic record ≥ 3.0 GPA
