Position Description:This is a fully benefited, full-time Harvard University position that has been funded through December 31, 2025. There is the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding, university priorities and satisfactory job performance.

The Administrative Data Management and Reporting Ecosystem (ADMIRE) project is designed to create a comprehensive data strategy that enables the institution to leverage administrative data to inform decisions, make predictions, and otherwise understand our operations. The demand for high-quality, normalized, and interconnected data has continued to increase, with the emergence of generative artificial intelligence putting a spotlight on the challenges of data quality and data governance. This project prioritizes the foundational technology and related services that will enable such initiatives to move forward easily in the future. The ADMIRE project will enable us to leverage the full value of our digital assets for an enterprise-wide approach to data governance, create a modern data ecosystem, and incorporate best practices into our data management capabilities.

We are looking for an experienced data analyst and modeler with a curious mind who can work with different SMEs and develop design artifacts. This person will play an integral role in the data architecture practice and upcoming data governance practice. This is an exciting role to have an opportunity to develop the data blueprint for the Harvard University Data ecosystem.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

A curious minded, people savvy data analyst to work in the Reporting Analytics and Integrated Data team to deliver high quality data analysis to building new data warehouses and delivering analytical projects. This is an individual contributor role. The principal responsibilities are to:

  • Produce data models using Erwin or ERStudio & artifacts in the IDMC data governance application (training will be provided, candidate is expected to understand the fundamentals of data governance principles)

  • Assess the source system process and data to set up data interfaces

  • Work with SMEs to understand data requirements

  • Provide input to data design

  • Articulate findings and present models

  • Understand data modeling for transaction systems (3rd normal forms) and datawarehouses (star schemas, snapshots)

The role will perform the following functions:

  • Manage aspects of data management services which may include database and analytics platform research and design, database performance and optimization, recovery/load strategy and implementation, and data modeling

  • Assist with the preparation of data verification and testing methods for data/applications loaded into the warehouse, or other data repositories, to ensure compatibility across different sources

  • Code, develop, and document scripts and stored procedures

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to prepare data acquisition/access analysis

  • Provide technical expertise and direction in developing and supporting system level programs & documentation for specific systems and processes

  • Troubleshoot advanced problems and recommend appropriate action

  • May provide training to clients and staff

  • Act as a resource for a school or unit

  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct

This position has been designated as a primarily remote position. While this position is primarily remote, travel to campus may be necessary based on business needs and the nature of work.
