DIRECTOR OF LABORATORY SAFETY, Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Office, to serve in a leadership role under the managing director of EHS. Will direct staff and operations for two EHS programs--Biosafety and Industrial Hygiene. Will provide expert EHS advice--including laboratory and animal research risk assessment--that supports achievement of MIT’s academic and research objectives with due consideration of and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, guidelines and good practices; lead initiatives and manage staff; oversee the overall daily operations, tasks, technical matters, and processes of Laboratory Safety staff for multiple institution-wide programs; and establish strategic improvement initiatives, benchmarking, and programs to detect and satisfy new regulations and changing best practices in all fields of responsibility. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master’s degree in a related field; at least ten years’ relevant experience; technical expertise in an EHS area related to the recognition, evaluation, and control of biological and chemical agents; general expertise in a range of EHS disciplines; experience developing and managing an active institutional biosafety committee and biological research registration, review, and approval program; ability to manage people and projects and prioritize heavy workload and client needs; service and team orientation; active listening skills; bias for action; tactical and strategic approach to problem-solving; organizational and cultural awareness; diplomacy and good judgment; and organizational skills. Must be able to influence staff, colleagues, and superiors; communicate for results, approach work conceptually, and build teams; achieve the “big picture” while paying attention to detail; and follow through and achieve objectives/tasks in a timely manner. PREFERRED: Ph.D. and a professional credential in a recognized EHS discipline, (e.g., CBSP, CIH, or RBP). Job #23933-13 4/16/24
