FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATOR 3/RESEARCH ADMINISTRATOR, Materials Research Laboratory (MRL), to join the fiscal team of an interdisciplinary laboratory with a diverse sponsor base. Will be the primary point of contact for principal investigators’ (PIs) sponsored research administration needs, monitoring the financial performance of active grants/contracts and providing regular updates to assure the proper distribution of resources and use of project funds; provide financial analysis and oversight; prepare reports for meetings with PIs; interact with PIs to develop research proposal budgets and all administrative content of proposals; collaborate on developing solutions for complex issues; and perform other duties as assigned. Will ensure adherence to MIT policies/regulations; provide guidance on compliance with sponsors’ agreement terms across the life cycle of awards; and collaborate with other team members to provide strong fiscal/grant management support.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in a related field; five year’s accounting/finance experience in an academic research environment; knowledge of/experience with federal guidelines and federal contracts’ financial administration requirements; financial analytical skills; meticulous attention to detail; familiarity with MS Office, including high-level proficiency using Excel; research proposal processing and pre-award administration experience; experience working with enterprise financial systems/tools; excellent customer service and oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision, within and across departments, and as a member of a productive and innovative team; the flexibility necessary to manage multiple activities to meet critical deadlines in a timely manner; and a record of assuming greater responsibility over time and of learning and utilizing new skills, including business processes and information systems.
