City of Cambridge Firefighter - Examination - Commonwealth in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Recruiting Information Session August 19, 2024 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm The session will be held at the Cambridge Public Library located at 449 Broadway Cambridge, MA Candidates must be Cambridge residents The City of Cambridge is currently recruiting applicants to take the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Open Competitive Examination for Fire Fighter Municipal Service. This examination consists of two components: the Written Examination and the Physical Abilities Test. Candidates must take and pass both components in order to be placed on the eligible list for appointment in a civil service city or town. The written exam period: October 17 through October 26, 2024. Application date is August 27, 2024, with a fee of \$75.00. Applications will not be accepted after 8/27/24. The Entry-Level Physical Abilities Test (ELPAT) is being held at the Hudson National Guard Armory. Candidates will receive an email with their scheduled ELPAT date and time approximately 14 days in advance. ELPAT dates may occur prior to or after the written component. Please pay careful attention to your account/email. Failure to complete the ELPAT, will result in failure of the examination and your name will not be placed on the eligible list. Failure of the written component will also result in failure of the examination and your name will not be placed on the eligible list. Examples of Essential Duties for a Municipal Firefighter: Firefighters often perform risky and physically demanding duties under emergency conditions. Firefighters work under supervision, often as a member of a team, to respond to fires and other emergencies. Firefighter duties may include, for example: connecting, pulling, and operating hose lines; operating a pump; positioning and climbing ladders; emergency rescue and lifesaving; ventilating smoke-filled areas; using and maintaining tools and equipment; training; and fire station activities. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 19 as of October 17, 2024 Must be a non smoker at the time of and after appointment Must pass a medical and physical ability examination prior to appointment RATE: \$55,572.38/year minimum, with excellent benefits APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply On-line with a Visa or MasterCard at www.mass.gov/civilservice.
