  • Has a positive outlook and "can-do" attitude; respectful and approachable style 

Additional Information:This role is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA-based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite at least three days per week and for departments to provide onsite coverage Monday – Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

Position Description:Are you excited by the idea of joining a world-class organization at the intersection of higher education, business, and IT? If so, consider joining our team as an IT Business Relationship Manager (BRM).

The IT BRM serves as the primary point of contact for the customer regarding its IT Business Services or IT Products and needs and is in the unique role of coordinating the customer needs and the services provided to mutual satisfaction. The IT BRM is continually acting as a bridge between the customer's evolving business needs and Harvard Business School (HBS) IT's changing technology landscape to provide the best possible outcomes for the School and IT. This position also helps to align business IT strategy with customer demand and educates our community on HBS IT’s mission, strategy, and vision.​

The ideal candidate will be an energetic, emerging technology leader who is comfortable working with a team as well as independently. The candidate will be a strong communicator who can leverage various communication channels (website, email, meetings, etc.) to ensure customers receive relevant, timely, and engaging information. Additionally, the candidate can collaborate with IT leadership and the IT BRM team to make decisions under pressure and time constraints, and to move various processes forward.   

Responsibilities:

  • Build strong, collaborative, and trusted relationships with business partners, and within IT, including leadership team members, service owners, project managers, technical management, and others

  • Provide a clear point of contact within IT for each assigned department and act as a bridge between IT and the business​

  • Understand at a high-level the services used by the customers and how they are related to each other to achieve business outcomes​

  • Influence business and IT stakeholders, through existing relationships, to move forward with IT initiatives that will benefit the department and organization as a whole and achieve stated business objectives​

  • Understand and solve issues and challenges such as differing agendas, political considerations, and resistance to change​

  • Track customer satisfaction with services provided​

  • Ensure that effective communication occurs related to service delivery and project delivery (e.g. planned downtime, changes, open tickets)​

  • Manage expectations of multiple business stakeholders​

  • Act as an advocate for HBS IT – sharing HBS IT’s mission, vision, strategic goals, tactical issues, and organizational challenges; helps partner recognize the value of these goals and align requests accordingly

  • Work with partners to plan and make sure they understand the relevance and impact of IT changes to their operations​

  • Act as an escalation point for major issues with any aspect of service delivery​

  • Work with service owners to develop and progress service plans​

  • Define, agree to, and report on key service metrics showing how they support strategic goals​

  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned
