Additional Qualifications and Skills:

College degree in biology or stem cell science preferred. Academic background in science and practical familiarity with lab research, animal care and basic standard technics. Proven organization and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail and communication skills. Ability to work independently and across teams, with a variety of projects and constituencies.

Occasional weekend or evening work may be required.Job Function:Research Job-Specific Responsibilities:

More specifically, the role will perform the following functions:

Administrative Support

  • Manage the PI’s calendar, schedule meetings and provide logistical support;

  • Maintain faculty documents (bibliographies, reference letters, CVs, presentations, and/or web pages);

  • Contribute to course/presentation materials and provide media support to facilitate teaching in a hybrid environment;

  • Maintain paper and electronic filing systems;

  • Coordinate appointment and visa paperwork for incoming/departing academic and student appointees;

  • Serve as information resource and point administrative contact for lab members, including postdoctoral fellows, research associates, students and lab staff

  • Make travel arrangements for the faculty member;

  • Process reimbursements; prepare corporate card statements for faculty; order and maintain lab and office supplies.

  • Order supplies and reagents for the lab.

Lab Operations:

  • Work with the PI and researchers on developing and updating Institutional Review Board’s and American Association for Laboratory Animal Science’s research protocols; coordinate their reviews and approvals.

  • Maintain the tissue culture room: inspect, replenish and organize the inventory of chemicals and lab supplies;

  • Monitor the operations of lab equipment, coordinate inspections, service contracts, repairs and upgrades with vendors, be responsible for pipettes calibration.

Research Support:

  • Assist Lab members with standard research procedures and experiments; record experimental results;

  • Prepare matter for analysis and diagnosis, prepare solutions and media for lab researchers;

  • Assist Computational Researcher with data mining and creating a guide NRA library in axolotl.

  • Assist with animal care and maintenance in the Animal facility. Perform and record daily animal health observations, communicate any adverse findings to the manager, and complete required documentation. Perform checks for environmental conditions, monitor equipment for proper operation and complete appropriate documentation.

Research Administration

  • Work with the PI on monitoring the timelines and deliverables of ongoing research projects;

  • Ensure flow of preliminary research data from researchers to PI ahead of upcoming timelines;

  • Assist in collecting content for grant proposals.

This work is performed on campus in Cambridge, MAJob Summary:

Reporting to Prof. Whited and working closely with all members of the Lab, the Research and Administrative Assistant will be responsible for administrative operations and financial, physical/laboratory and research resources for the PI and her research group. The Assistant will assist with daily aspects of the Lab’s operations, provide basic research support to the Lab’s researchers, act as back-up in the animal facility and assist the PI and the Lab with their administrative needs.
