    Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Science (MKI), to work in the Quantum Measurement Group of Professor Nergis Mavalvala and the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) Laboratory, beginning in June 2024. Will primarily carry out research and technical projects at the forefront of quantum-enhanced precision metrology, specifically the development and application of novel compact squeezed light sources. Will also be part of the LIGO Laboratory team working on a variety of projects involving high-quality optics, low-noise electronics, and laser interferometric techniques aimed at improving the sensitivity of the LIGO interferometers, mainly at MIT but with opportunities to travel to the LIGO observatories in Hanford, Washington and Livingston, Louisiana.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in experimental physics, experience in the field of quantum and/or nonlinear optics, experience designing and setting up complex experimental table-top apparatuses, demonstrated record of scientific research, and interest in future developments in gravitational-wave detectors. Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills and be able to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
