Harvard University Postdoctoral Fellow in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Details
Title Postdoctoral Fellow
School Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Department/Area Molecular and Cellular Biology/Applied Physics/SEAS
Position Description
Our lab is developing a series of cutting-edge methods to visualize cellular organization. As one example, we are using time-resolved cryo-vitrification (both cryo-plunging and high-pressure freezing) to visualize the nanoscale dynamics of cellular response to stimuli. In another direction, we are developing multicolor electron microscopy using the principle of “cathodoluminescence” – emission of light triggered by excitation with an electron beam. The advertised position involves further development of these and related methods as well as applications of these new technologies to address questions in the fundamental cell biology of transmembrane signaling through G-protein-coupled receptors and the formation of biomolecular condensates.
Basic Qualifications
Competitive applicants would typically have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
-Biophysical instrumentation development: optical and mechanical design, simulation, development and control
-Optical imaging; Single-molecule fluorescence and FRET ; Lasers; Pump-probe experiments
-Biophysics of cell signaling and stress response; Biomolecular condensates; G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs); Cell and molecular biology
-Cryo-vitrification via cryo-plunging and high-pressure freezing; Time-resolved freezing
-Microfluidics; design, simulation, prototyping, fabrication and testing of fluidic devices
-Electron microscopy (cryo and regular) for structural and cell biology; Cathodoluminescence
