Position Description
The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University seeks applications for a Preceptor in Modern Hebrew Language, with an expected start date of July 1, 2023. The preceptor will be responsible for teaching five courses per academic year, participating in curricular development, and training and supervising teaching fellows. The appointment term is three years, renewable for up to five years (eight years total), contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization. The salary range for 2023-2024 is estimated to be $67,600-$75,300.
Permanent residency sponsorship is not available for this position; visa sponsorship is available.
Basic Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency and demonstrated excellence in teaching modern Hebrew at all levels using communicative approaches to undergraduate and graduate learners is required. The successful applicant should be committed to ongoing professional development and developing new course materials.
Additional Qualifications
Applicants should have proven experience coordinating a Hebrew language sequence, including organizing cultural programming and events, and be well-versed in student-centered, proficiency-based language instruction and incorporating technology into instruction as well as experience in teaching thematic courses (e.g., literature, film, media).
Ph.D. in modern Hebrew language or literature or some other area connected to modern Hebrew/Israeli culture is preferred but not required.
